Dr. Allan is a cardiac intensivist in the Department of Cardiology, Division of Cardiac Intensive Care at Boston Children’s Hospital. She currently serves as the Clinical Director of the Boston Children’s Hospital Simulator Program, a large, hospital-wide Simulator Program. Dr. Allan co-leads Faculty and Curriculum Development programs within the institution and is an active part of the BCH Simulator Program’s outreach team, which has assisted in the development of more than a dozen Simulator Programs around the world. She has trained simulation faculty on a national and international level and has served as an international invited lecturer on Simulation and Patient Safety. She has developed particular areas of focus in ECMO Simulation and in the use of Simulation for testing new hospital processes and environments to improve patient safety, and has applied the tools she has developed in these areas on a local, regional, and international basis.
She has been a frequent presenter at IPSSW over the last 4 years, presenting both abstracts and pre-conference workshops on building sustainable Simulator Programs. As a member of the Board, Dr. Allan is committed to using her broad experience in simulation, faculty development, and patient safety to expand the reach of the organization and to build community among pediatric and neonatal simulation practitioners.
